The Sad Times is a satirical storytelling experience centered around you, a sheep, on your search for meaning in life. It is a 3,333-piece NFT collection, each with its own color and job combination.
The Sad Times is a Web3 project powered by Sadire, a clothing brand that stands for "Sad Attire" and "Satire." Both projects were created by Dan Hoban.
The Sad Times was a free NFT project that was released "during the saddest of times" (2022 bear market). On November 2022, the project sold out, and the pre-reveal period started.
The Sad Times Story
The Sad Times NFT pre-reveal period is a multi-phase storyline. During this period, the video of each sheep changes, giving the holder a unique animated story of their sheep’s life from birth to their job and their final traits.
There are a total of 12 phases. The first phase started on 11/17/22. Each phase lasts approximately 2-7 days. As of writing this article (12/30/22), there are only 3 phases left!
Mental Health and Community
Dan Hoban's two projects aim to reduce the stigma behind sadness through humor and honesty. His mission is to make the world a better place.... to be sad in, give it a sense of normality, and lead people to be happier.
The Sad Times ethos of honesty and humor runs throughout the project and its team. Dan is very open and honest about his personal struggles with depression.
On their never-ending quest for happiness, the Sad Times team hosts a weekly town hall meeting to maintain transparency.
They also host weekly trivia nights and poker games. The reward is Sadire merch!
The Sad Times NFT Details
Once you own a Sad Times NFT, holders get:
1. 3D animated spinning sheep- Once the Pre-reveal phase has been completed, users will get a 3D animated sheep, each with a unique color and job combination. The spinning sheep serves as the core NFT of their ecosystem and act as a master key connected to all other Sad Times NFTs.
2. Versatile Profile Picture (PFP)- Every sheep holder will receive a PFP connected to their original spinning sheep that interacts and changes over time. It’ll be affected by things they do in the real world, their choices in the digital world, and more.
3. 3D animated film- A cinematic art piece in the form of another NFT attached to their original spinning sheep. It will be a unique short film featuring the sheep’s life, a compilation of the pre-reveal video, and more. This will allow every holder to own and display their sheep’s life.
