Taking Breaks and Fostering Connection and Creativity IRL are Requirements in Web3

I've seen a few Tweets recently glorifying not taking breaks in Web3. I disagree. This includes taking planned breaks from social media.

Social media is addictive. I look at it like a drug. It can be used for positive things, like having fun and connecting to others. But it can also be used to numb emotions we don’t want to be present to.

Similar to managing any addiction, when you try to stop using social media, you'll have urges to get back on. You may even reach out for your phone out of habit without realizing it.

Your brain will send all sorts of thoughts about why you should check your notifications one more time. It takes time for your brain to adjust after getting off social media.

Tips for Having a Better Relationship with Social Media:

  • Turn off notifications

  • Turn off your phone or leave it somewhere out of reach for an hour/day when you're engaged in something IRL.

  • Give yourself social media office hours. Be consistent.
