Twitter has made it VERY hard to successfully get rid of fake accounts that are clearly trying to impersonate you. This means there will be lots of fake accounts hanging around for longer. THIS IS UNFORTUNATE! Some things to do to stay safe:
CHECK FOLLOWER COUNT!
More often than not, simply looking at the follower count is enough to identify an imposter. BUT NOT ALWAYS!
DO A SEARCH!
Search for the person in question. Do they come up?
INSPECT THEIR HANDLE CLOSELY
Fraudsters use many things, such as double letters, 1s, and extra underscores, to make their handle *look* like the original account. Take a close look. See something fishy? Dive deeper.
ASK A FRIEND
Use the people around you to help! Stick together! Two heads are better than one when trying to figure out what's real and what isn't.
ARE THEY DMing YOU?
Did you get a DM that seems out of character? Time to dig deeper.
ARE THEY LINKING TO A SITE YOU DON'T RECOGNIZE?
Don't even think about clicking on it until you've dug deeper using some of the tactics above.
ARE THEY OFFERING YOU SOMETHING THAT'S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?
Trust your gut!
IS WHAT THEY'RE ASKING TIME SENSITIVE?
Scammers take advantage of the fast-paced NFT space to trick you into thinking you HAVE to do something this instant, and if you don't, you're missing out on the next BAYC.
IF ASSOCIATED WITH A PROJECT
Jump in the discord. Ask around.
Check to see if the project account is following the person.
LASTLY, LIVE BY THESE WORDS
Better to miss out on something legit than to lose everything to a scam.
