Toxic Echo Chambers

Seeing a lot of people show signs that they're stuck. Here are a few of my personal tips on how to get out.

What's an Echo Chamber?

"We can broadly define echo chambers as environments in which the opinion, political leaning, or belief of users about a topic gets reinforced due to repeated interactions with peers or sources having similar tendencies and attitudes." - M. Cinelli et al.

Tip #1

Stay active and be observant on Twitter. Don't just read an Original Post and scroll... dig through the replies of posts, the sub-threads of those replies, and so on... you will almost always find at least one or two nuggets along the way.

Tip #2

Look through the replies of people with a platform you know are good people with relevant content. They've likely already done the groundwork for you, and you can utilize their posts as network breeding grounds.

Tip #2 (example)

I like when people call bs out & offer unique perspectives that go against the grain. When there is a popular, controversial post, I usually find a lot of great follows in the replies.

Tip #3

Follow a lot of people, but don't only follow people with the same opinions or content as you. Try to find follows that are consistent with their morals & ethics, even if it sometimes harms them. These people will give you honest alpha & direction.

Tip #4

Utilize lists... the TimeLine is not an efficient use of your time. Cherry-pick those with GREAT content and toss them in a list to use as your main TimeLine instead.

I have around 300 priority people on a list & 20-30 *high* priority people I have notifications on for so I can engage.

Tip #5

Post more original content!

Don't just put all the onus on yourself to network. Allow people to find you and your content to network on as well.

Happy Networking!!
